ঐতিহাসিক বাবরি মসজিদ ভাঙার অগ্রসেনানি ছিল বলবীর সিং, যোগেন্দ্র পাল। তারা দু’জন বাবরি মসজিদের গম্বুজের চূড়ায় উঠে দু’হাতে চালিয়েছে শাবল। দু’জনেই এখন মুসলিম। রেখেছেন দাড়ি। বলবীর সিং মুহাম্মদ আমির নাম নিয়েছেন বলে জানা যায়।
বাবরি মসজিদ ভাঙার পর বলবীর সিংকে তার বাবা দৌলতরাম বাড়ি থেকে তাড়িয়ে দেন। মসজিদ ভেঙে বাড়ি যাওয়ার পর কী হলো, এমন এক প্রশ্নের উত্তরে মুহাম্মদ আমির বলেন,”বাবা আমাকে বললেন, হয় তুমি এই বাড়িতে থাকবে, না হলে আমি। তো আমিই বেরিয়ে গেলাম বাড়ি থেকে। আমার স্ত্রীও বেরিয়ে এল না। থেকে গেল বাড়িতেই।”
সে সময় ভবঘুরের মতো জীবন কাটিয়েছেন বলবীর। লম্বা দাড়িওয়ালা লোক দেখলেই ভয়ে আঁতকে উঠতেন বলবীর। বেশ কিছুদিন পর বাড়ি ফিরে জানতে পারেন বাবা দৌলতরাম মারা গেছেন। বাবরি মসজিদ ভাঙার দুঃখেই দৌলতরামের মৃত্যু হয়েছে।
অতঃপর বলবীর পুরনো বন্ধু যোগেন্দ্র পালের খোঁজখবর নিতে গিয়ে আরও মুষড়ে পড়েন। বলবীর জানতে পারেন যোগেন্দ্র মসজিদ ভাঙার প্রায়শ্চিত্ত করতে গিয়ে মুসলিম হয়ে গেছেন। যোগেন্দ্র পালের সঙ্গে দেখা হলে সে বলবীরকে বলেছিলেন, বাবরি ভাঙার পর থেকেই তার মাথা বিগড়ে গিয়েছিল। যোগেন্দ্রর মনে হয়েছিল, পাপ করেছিলেন বলেই এমন ফল হয়েছে। প্রায়শ্চিত্ত করতে গিয়ে তাই মুসলিম হয়ে যান যোগেন্দ্র।
যোগেন্দ্র পালের কথা শুনে বলবীর সিংও দেরি না করে সোনেপতে গিয়ে মাওলানা কালিম সিদ্দিকির কাছে ইসলাম ধর্মে দীক্ষা নেন। মুহাম্মদ আমির নাম ধারণ করেন। লম্বা দাড়ি রেখে দেন। নিয়মিত ভোরে ফজরের আজান দেন। সব সময় আল্লাহর জিকির-আজকার করেন।
বলবীর বা তার পরিবার কোনও দিন উগ্র হিন্দু ছিল না। ইতিহাস, রাষ্ট্রবিজ্ঞান আর ইংরেজি, এই তিনটি বিষয়ে এমএ ডিগ্রি পাওয়া বলবীর তার মা-বাবা-ভাই-বোনদের নিয়ে ছোটবেলায় থাকতেন পানিপথের কাছে খুব ছোট্ট একটা গ্রামে। বলবীরের বয়স যখন ১০ বছর, তখন তার বাবা দৌলতরাম তার ভাইদের পড়াশোনার জন্য পানিপথে চলে আসে। দেশ বিভাগ দেখা বলবীরের বাবা বরাবরই মহাত্মা গান্ধির আদর্শে বিশ্বাসী ছিলেন। সে কারণেই তাদের আশপাশে যেসব মুসলিম থাকতো, উনি তাদের আগলে রাখতেন সব সময়। কিন্তু পানিপথের পরিবেশটা ছিল অন্যরকম। হরিয়ানার প্রত্যন্ত গ্রাম থেকে আসা লোকজন পানিপথে সেভাবে মর্যাদা পেত না।
এ দুঃখবোধ সব সময় বলবীরকে তাড়িয়ে বেড়াত। একদিন পানিপথের আরএসএসের একটি শাখার অচেনা, অজানা কর্মীরা বলবীরকে দেখা ‘আপ’ ‘আপ'( আপনি, আপনি ) বলে সম্বোধন করেন। সেটা বলবীরের কাছে খুব ভালো লেগেছিল। সেই থেকেই ওদের (আরএসএস) সঙ্গে বলবীরের পথচলা শুরু। রোহতক মহর্ষি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে এমএ সম্পন্ন করে সে সময় বিয়ে করে বলবীর সিংহ। প্রতিবেশীরা বলবীরকে কট্টর হিন্দু হিসেবে জানলেও বলবীরের বাবা ও তার পরিবার কখনওই মূর্তি পূজায় বিশ্বাস করতো না। মন্দিরেও যেত না। এমনকী তাদের বাড়িতে গীতাও তার পরিবারের কেউ কখনও পড়ত না। যখন বাবরি মসজিদ ভাঙার তোড়জোড় শুরু হয় তখন শিবসেনার লোকজন তাকে ও তার বন্ধু যোগেন্দ্রকে বাবরি মসজিদ ভাঙতে অযোধ্যায় পাঠিয়েছিল। বাবরি মসজিদ ভেঙে পানিপথে ফিরে আসার পর তাদেরকে দেওয়া হয় বিরাট সংবর্ধনা। বাবরি মসজিদের গম্বুজে শাবল চালিয়ে তারা সেখান থেকে দু’টি ইট এনেছিল, যা পানিপথের শিবসেনার স্থানীয় অফিসে সাজিয়ে রাখা হয়েছিল।
একদিকে বাড়ি থেকে বিতাড়িত হওয়া অন্যদিকে পিতার মৃত্যু বলবীরের মনোকষ্ট আরও বাড়িয়ে দেয়। অতঃপর বাবরি মসজিদ ভাঙার সাথী যোগেন্দ্র পালের মুসলিম হয়ে যাওয়ার কথা শুনে বলবীর আরও বেশি মুষড়ে পড়ে। শেষ পর্যন্ত বলবীর মুসলিম হয়ে যাওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন। যেই কথা, সেই কাজ। বলবীর সিংহ মুসলিম হয়ে গেলেন। নাম নিলেন মুহাম্মদ আমির।
বলবীর সিংহ প্রতিজ্ঞা করেন, বাবরি মসজিদ ভাঙার প্রায়শ্চিত্ত হিসেবে ভারতে ভেঙে পড়া ১০০ মসজিদ সংস্কার করবেন। বলবীরের দাবি অনুযায়ী, ১৯৯৩ সাল থেকে ২০১৭ সাল পর্যন্ত এই ২৫ বছরে উত্তর ভারতের বিভিন্ন জায়গায় বিশেষ করে মেওয়াটে অনেক ভেঙে পড়া মসজিদ খুঁজে বের করে সেগুলো মেরামত করছেন। মুহাম্মদ আমির (বলবীর) আরও জানান, উত্তরপ্রদেশের মেন্ডুর মসজিদও তিনি স্থানীয় মুসলিমদের সহযোগিতায় সংস্কার করেছেন।
দেশের বিভিন্ন রাজ্য ছাড়া বাংলাতেও তিনি এসেছিলেন। বিভিন্ন জায়গায় সভা করেছেন। কিভাবে সেদিন ঐতিহাসিক বাবরি মসজিদ ভাঙা হল, পুলিশের ভূমিকা কী ছিল, কংগ্রেস সরকারের ভূমিকা কী ছিল সব তিনি বলেছেন সভায়। বদলে যাওয়া আমীর আলীর এখন মুখে দাঁড়ি, মাথায় টুপি। সব সময় মাথা নিচু করে থাকেন।
