মুজাহিদুল ইসলাম ।।
মৃত্যু একটি শব্দ। শব্দের বহনকৃত অর্থ ও পূর্বাপর অবস্থা মানবজীবনে খুবই প্রাসঙ্গিক প্রশ্ন। গতকালের প্রশ্ন। বর্তমানের প্রশ্ন। আগামীকালের প্রশ্ন। যুবকের প্রশ্ন। বৃদ্ধের প্রশ্ন। দাঙ্গাবিক্ষুব্ধ বিশ্বে তা আজ আরো বেশি প্রাসঙ্গিক। মৃত্যু যেখানে চারপাশ থেকে শুধু ছুটে আসছে। মুসলিমের জন্য তো অবশ্যই। মৃত্যু ও হাশর-নশর মুসলিমের অপরিবর্তনীয় মৌলিক বিশ্বাসের অন্তর্ভুক্ত।
এই অবধারিত মৃত্যুটা কী, মুসলিম মন কিভাবে ধারণ করবে এই চিন্তা, ভয়ের সাথে নাকি স্বাভাবিকভাবে? মৃত্যুভয় কাটিয়ে ওঠার কি কোনো পন্থা আছে? দার্শনিক, কবি, সাহিত্যিকসহ সকল পেশার মানুষ এ নিয়ে ভেবেছেন। কখনও জীবন সায়াহ্নে এসে মৃত্যুকে ভয় না করে জয় করার পথ দেখিয়েছেন। এই লেখায় এ সকল প্রশ্নের উত্তর খোঁজা হবে ইসলামি সভ্যতা থেকে।
মৃত্যু ধর্মীয় আলোচনার কেন্দ্রবিন্দু
‘যে-মৃত্যু থেকে তোমরা পলায়ন করছ, সেটা তোমাদের মুখোমুখি হবে।’ কুরআনে এভাবেই চিত্রিত হয়েছে মৃত্যু। ‘সকল স্বাদ বিনাশকারী মৃত্যুকে বেশি বেশি স্মরণ করো’ বাণী দিয়েই সূচিত হয় ইসলামি চরিত্রগঠনের ভিত্তিস্থাপন। ধীরে ধীরে ইসলামি সাহিত্যভাণ্ডার সমৃদ্ধ হতে থাকে; মৃত্যুর পূর্বাবস্থা, মৃত্যু ও মৃত্যুপরবর্তী অবস্থা নিয়ে পৃথক পৃথকভাবে রচিত হয় বিভিন্ন গ্রন্থ।
এ যাবত মৃত্যুসংক্রান্ত রচিত গ্রন্থগুলোর মধ্যে হিজরি ষষ্ঠ শতাব্দীর ইবনুল খাররাত রচিত ‘আল আ-কিবাহ ফি যিকরিল মাওত’ প্রথম স্বতন্ত্র গ্রন্থ হিসেবে বিবেচিত। মৃত্যুর কষ্ট, জানাজা, জান্নাত ও জাহান্নামের অবস্থাসহ বিভিন্ন বিষয় কুরআন-সুন্নাহ থেকে তুলে এনেছেন তিনি। মৃত্যুর সম্ভাব্য সময় একজন মানুষ মৃত্যুর প্রস্তুতি তথা ওসিয়ত, কল্যাণমূলক কাজ, পাওনা জাকাতসহ দেনা-আমানাত ইত্যাদির প্রতি মনোযোগ দেয়ার কথা থাকলেও মানুষ তা দেয় না। একবার ডাক্তারের নিকট তো আরেকবার বিমর্ষ হয়ে বসে থাকা। যেন এ নশ্বর পৃথিবী ত্যাগই তার মূল কষ্টের কারণ হয়ে থাকে। এমনই সব অবস্থার প্রতিশেধক হিসেবে ইবনুল জাওজি লেখেন ‘আস সাবাত ইনদাল মামাত’।
গাজালি ও মিসকাওয়াইহের দৃষ্টিতে মৃত্যুভয় ও পরিত্রাণের উপায়
আমার শরীর শেষ হয়ে যাবে। মাটি হয়ে যাবে। আর এই পৃথিবীর গাছপালা-দালানকোঠা এভাবেই অপরিবর্তিত থাকবে। কিংবা মৃত্যুযন্ত্রণা অনেক কঠিন, মৃত্যুপরবর্তী অনাগত অবস্থার আশংকা অথবা রেখে যাওয়া সহায়-সম্পত্তির জন্য আফসোসের কোনোটাই আসলে ভয়ের কারণ হতে পারে না। আসল কারণ, মৃত্যুর বাস্তবতা সম্পর্কে অনবগতি। এ কারণেই যত মৃত্যুভয়।
মুসলিম দার্শনিক মিসকাওয়াইহ বলেন, মূর্খতা মৃত্যুভয় থেকেও ভয়ংকর। আত্মার যে মৃত্যু নেই, মৃত্যুবরণকারী ব্যক্তির তা জানা নেই। এই অজ্ঞতা দূর করার জন্য যুগে যুগে জ্ঞানীগুণী ব্যক্তিবর্গ রাতদিন ব্যয় করেছেন। এবং নিজেদের জন্য চিরস্থায়ী শান্তির ব্যবস্থা করেছেন।
গাজালির মতে মৃত্যুপূর্ববর্তী মৃত্যুচিন্তা মানুষকে অনাচার থেকে দূরে রাখতে সহায়তা করে। মৃত্যুর স্মরণ মানুষের মধ্যে আত্মতুষ্টি, তওবার আগ্রহ, দুরিয়াবিরাগ ও ইবাদাতের প্রতি ভালোবাসা তৈরি করে। মৃত্যুচিন্তা তাদের নিকটই সমস্যা হিসেবে ধরা দেয়, যারা দুনিয়ার প্রতি অত্যধিক আগ্রহী এবং খাওয়া-দাওয়ার প্রতি বেশি মনোযোগী। গাজালির দেয়া মৃত্যুভয়ের চিকিৎসা হলো, আত্মার প্রকৃত পরিচয়, শরীরের সাথে তার সম্পর্ক, আত্মাসৃষ্টির কারণ জানা। এবং আত্মার পূর্ণতার প্রতিবন্ধক থেকে বিরত থাকা।
জীবনসায়াহ্নে মৃত্যুর মূল্যায়ন
ইসলামি সাহিত্যের পাতায় জীবনের শেষ মুহূর্তে মৃত্যু নিয়ে বিভিন্ন ব্যক্তির মূল্যায়ন উঠে এসেছে। সালাহউদ্দিন আইয়ুবির এক সেনাপতি যুদ্ধের ময়দানে জীবন কাটিয়ে ৯০ বছর বয়সে মৃত্যুর কথা রোজনামচায় এভাবে তুলে ধরেছেন–‘কারো ধারণার জগত যেন এ ভাবনা গ্রহণ না করে যে, ঘোড়ায় আরোহণ মৃত্যুকে তরান্বিত করবে কিংবা অতিসতর্কতা মৃত্যুকে বিলম্বিত করবে। আমার আজও এভাবে বেঁচে থাকা এর সুস্পষ্ট উদাহরণ। জীবনে কত লড়াইয়ে অংশ নিয়েছি। শত্রুর বেষ্টনী ও বুকের ভেতর ঢুকে লড়াই করেছি। তরবারি, বর্শা ও তীরের কত আঘাত খেয়েছি। অথচ আমি এখনো দূর্গে অবস্থান করছি। জীবনের নব্বইটি বসন্ত অতিক্রম করতে যাচ্ছি।’
ইসলামের প্রাথমিক বিজয়াভিযানের সময় আল্লাহর দরবারে নিজের অপরাধের বদলা দিতে আল্লাহর রাস্তায় লড়াই করেছেন মালিক বিন রিব। আরব উপদ্বীপে স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যপূর্ণ জীবনযাপন করা এই জানবাজ মুজাহিদ যখন খুরাসানের লড়াই থেকে ফিরছিলেন, মদিনার পথে বিষাক্ত সাপের দংশনে তার মৃত্যু অবধারিত হয়ে ওঠে। নিশ্চিত মৃত্যুকে আলিঙ্গনের আগে তিনি যে কবিতা পাঠ করেছিলেন, ইতিহাস আজও তা সংরক্ষণ করে রেখেছে।

তবে আশকার, তরবারি আর আমার
বর্শাখানা।’
অন্যদিকে শয্যাশায়ী এবং জীবনের প্রতি বিতৃষ্ণ হয়ে মৃত্যুকামনাকারী ব্যক্তিরাও মৃত্যুর মূল্যায়ন করেছেন। আন্দালুসের মন্ত্রী ইবনু শাহিদ মৃত্যুর প্রকৃত তত্ত্ব নিয়ে বলেন, আমি মৃত্যুর অপেক্ষা করছি। এর জন্য কোনো আশংকাই করছি না। তবে হায়! যদি চাকচিক্যময় জীবন থেকে বিরত থাকতে পারতাম।
মৃত্যুর ব্যাখ্যা যুগে যুগে মানুষ ও সভ্যতার জন্য এক চ্যালেঞ্জ। এ বাস্তবতার মুখোমুখি মানুষকে হতেই হবে। যুবক হোক কিংবা বৃদ্ধ। বড় হোক কি-বা ছোট। জীবন ও মৃত্যু একসাথেই হাত ধরে হাঁটে। যা অনিবার্য তাকে উপভোগ্য করাই শ্রেয়।
